Vaccine Reactions

Please inform us at the time of scheduling if your pet has a history of vaccine reactions.  If your pet has a history of severe reaction, for the safety of your pet we are unable to administer vaccines.  If your pet has a history of mild reaction, we will require injectable pre-medication and dividing vaccines among multiple appointments.

Your pet can have a vaccine reaction even if they have never had one prior, and they can react to vaccines that were previously not considered reactive.  If your pet has an unexpected reaction after we vaccinate, due to the mobile nature of our practice we may not be able to return to treat your pet.

  • Vaccine reactions in pets can range from mild to severe
  • Common, mild reactions include lethargy, decreased appetite, mild fever, and tenderness, swelling, or a small lump at the injection site
  • More severe reactions, though rare, can include facial swelling, vomiting, diarrhea, hives, and difficulty breathing, potentially leading to anaphylaxis/collapse

If you are not able to make contact with us and/or your pet is experiencing any symptoms of a severe reaction, please seek immediate attention at the nearest 24 hour emergency hospital.  Examination is also recommended if mild symptoms worsen or persist for more than 24 hours.
